Fire union questioning budget plans

New Albany's fire union president expressed his dissatisfaction to the City Council with some of the options being kicked around to balance public safety budgets for 2010. With a modification to lower the fine from $50 to $25 for speeders going 1 to 5 miles per hour over the limit, the council approved on the first reading an ordinance that will keep most fine money from speeding tickets local. Southern Indiana Waste Systems announced this week that more than 1.5 million pounds of material was recycled by the company in New Albany last year. It looks like the city-owned State Street parking garage has been damaged, but the sturcture remains under repair
