Ursuline Sisters to start historic trip from riverfront
On Wed. Aug 11, five Ursuline Sisters will board a specially built 1874-era flatboat, christened Angela's Ark, at the New Albany Riverfront commemorating a similar trip made more than 130 years ago. The 1874 adventure began on the Louisville waterfront, journeying down the Ohio to Owensboro. The 2004 reenactment will begin a little farther downstream because of the closing of the McAlpine locks for repair. The 10-foot wide by 30-foot long flatboat was built by Capt. John Cooper of Gallatin TN.
