Possible explosion averted during garage fire

A possible disaster was avoided yesterday as NA firefighters put out a fire that started in one garage and spread to surrounding structures in the 900 block of Culbertson Ave. NAFD Deputy Chief James Gream said the third building contained black powder. He said firefighters had to keep that building wet to ensure that the powder inside didn't ignite. Cinergy/PSI officials also responded to the scene as the fire caused a nearby power line to explode. No one was injured.
