Councilmanic Row
On Park Place, there are several councilmen and ex-councilmen's residences, all republicans, and it looks as though they were lining up for a race in the coming November city election. They are all politicians who have had their schooling in city politics and who are stayers "until the last dog is killed." Look at the array of councilmanic talent and see if any one block in New Albany can beat it: For instance there is ex councilman Z. Taylor Graham, who lives at 213 Park Place; next to him at 215 Park Place councilman Short, who represents the Fifth ward at present, resides; at 225 Park Place Mr. John Newhouse, who represented the Fifth ward for a quarter of a century, more or less, resides; at 229 Park Place Walter A. Coons, ex-councilman from the Second ward now lives; at Lafayette and Market streets councilman Walter G. Houghland lives; on the north side of the Park at 224 Market street, ex-councilman Joseph D. Poutch resides. Ex-councilman Charles F. Markmeyer did live in that vicinity while he was councilman, but he has reformed so far as the councilmanic habit is concerned and now lives in the Third ward. With all this array of councilmanic timber is it any wonder that the politicians of that ward are the first to start the municipal campaign.
