Cause of house fires still under investigation

A resident of one of two New Albany homes that caught fire last week has been charged with battery, in addition to several other charges previously reported. More than six fire trucks responded to the fires at 1546 and 1548 E. Eighth St. before 7 p.m. July 17. Investigators say the fire originated at 1546 E. Eighth St. and spread to the house next door.
