The Flood--The River Still Rising
There was another heavy rain last night, and the river is still rising at the rate of an inch an hour. During the past twenty-four hours the rise has been about eighteen inches. From all points above we have accounts of heavy rains and a steady rise in the Ohio and its tributaries, and the prospects are that the river will continue to rise here for two or three days. The water this morning lacked three feet of reaching the high water mark of 1861-2, and about two feet of the highest point reached by the flood of '64-5.. The water has flooded nearly all the buildings on Water street from Upper Third to the corner of Lower First and from the alley between Lower First and Lower Second, to Lower Third street. Reamer's Excelsior Warehouse is still about two and a half or three feet above the flood.. The back water has inundated many houses along Falling Run creek, compelling the people to move out. It has also upset many out buildings along the creek.. It is predicted by some of our steamboatmen that the river will reach a higher point than in 1861-62...
