Nuisances and disorderly conduct

The ordinance passed on Monday night by the Council, defining nuisances, disorderly conduct, and extending the jurisdiction of the city two miles beyond the city limits, in accordance with the act for the incorporation and government of cities, passed at the last session of the Legislature, will enable the police to put a stop to the violations of law so flagrantly practiced just beyond the corporation line.. This ordinance gives the city police control of the Fair Grounds; and it is not likely that such scenes as were witnessed there on the Fourth of July will be reenacted very soon. It will also permit the suppression of a number of houses of ill-fame, located just outside the city. The police now have all they can desire in the way of law and territory. We hope they will prove vigilant enough to put the law in immediate force.
