A New Election Precinct
By mere accident, we learned on Saturday that the Board of County Commissioners, at their late session, had passed an order creating an additional election precinct in this township. We immediately called upon the County Auditor, who permitted us to copy from the minutes of the board the following order:. Sept. 4th, 1854. The Board believing that the public convenience requires that New Albany township should have an additional place of voting for County and Township officers.. Ordered, That a poll be opened at the Washington Engine house, in case said Engine house cannot be procured, then at such other point as may be convenient as a place of voting.. We very much question whether the Commissioners have not transcended their powers, in creating this election precinct, or opening an additional poll, especially if it is intended to carry it into operation at the coming State election. We wish some of our legal gentlemen would examine this matter and give us their opinion.
