George Louis Eisman, probably the oldest resident of New Albany in point of years of continued residence, was born on the 18th day of February, 1822, in the city of Gottingen, Germany. He came to America in May, 1853, after a nine weeks voyage from Bremen and has resided here ever since. He was married to Miss Susannah Smith, of Franklin township, this county, February 27th, 1845. Six children were born to them, five of whom are still living as follows: Charles L., John S. and George D. Eisman and Mrs. Mary C. Diefenback and Mrs. Sallie Hancock, all of this county excepting Mrs. Hancock, who lives at Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Eisman is a cooper by trade, but for many years has been following the occupation of farmer and gardener. He is a member of Wesley Chapel church and Jefferson Lodge, No. 104, F. and A.M.
